[...] My feelings about Boras have been well chronicled here at Brushbackpitch.com so I’ll keep this relatively short. But Boras told Playboy for its June edition, according to the Los Angeles Times, that if he were in charge, he’d make the series best of nine. He’d play the first two games at neutral sites with Game one on Saturday and Game two on Sunday with the remaining contests played in the markets of the participating teams. [...]

Hey Jason. Thanks for the comments. There's no question the problem is bigger than Boras. I think Major League Baseball needs a salary cap and a salary floor to accompany their "revenue sharing" plan.

Commissioner Selig has been a disaster for the game in many ways, allowing the steroid thing to happen under his nose and failing in any meaningful way to deal with competitive imbalance issues.

But Boras is illustrative of the ridiculous greed and egomania that has overtaken professional sports. His announcement in the middle of the World Series last year that Alex Rodriguez, another completely detatched, horse's ass of a sports figure, was opting out of his contract with the Yankees - and then his pursuit of a contract even larger than the ridiculous one he signed with Texas in the first place, exemplifies his lack of class, his utter disregard for the fans and his desire to do nothing but further the interests not of the game, but of his clients - and by extension, himself.

He is terrible for the game.

Great article, I hope Mr. Boras is happy with himself. Does he realize a family of four to drive to a game, park, buy four tickets (nosebleed), 4 hot dogs and sodas is becoming a rarity. More like a "vacation" that has to be planned and budgeted for in advance because of the cost to the parents. Of course that is in all major sports now, not just baseball. But on the other hand, if I'm a player, there's no one else I would want representing me. Which leads me to believe the problem is more complex than Mr. Boras.

Loved the Farley quote!!!
