Milwaukee hurler CC Sabathia threw a one-hitter against Pittsburgh Sunday leading the team to a 7-0 victory.

The Brewers, according to the Associated Press, are preparing a protest to Major League Baseball challenging an official scorer’s ruling that the one hit was in fact a hit. He could, in fact, be awarded the no-hitter after the fact.

I love what the Brewers have accomplished this season and I’d like to see them make the playoffs for the first time since 1982. And Bob Melvin has been a masterful manager this season. But as to his protesting this supposed injustice, I really have to wonder if there aren’t bigger issues for him to chase down.

Sure, no-hitters are exciting. And it was a controversial call – Sabathia basically fumbled a dribbler hit to the right of the mound, allowing Andy LaRoche to reach.

But still – who’s to say that if Sabathia was carrying a no-hitter into the eighth or ninth inning that he wouldn’t have double-clutched and grooved one allowing the Pirates a hit anyway?

Additionally, with the Brewers in the playoff race, isn’t this a better time to be emphasizing team accomplishments rather than individual glories? They won the game. They took one step closer to achieving that playoff goal. And Sabathia has been a downright stud since he arrived in town from Cleveland.

But let the no-hitter go. There are bigger things to deal with down the line.
